The Thalambur police on Wednesday arrested Mambakkam panchayat president and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) Chengalpattu East district deputy secretary Veera alias Veerasamy for intimidating a contractor.

He was arrested after a video went viral on social media, where Veerasamy was seen accepting a bribe of ₹1.3 lakh from a contractor.

He was also expelled from the party. In a statement, Chengalpattu East district secretary C.V. Dhinakaran expelled Veerasamy, from the party’s primary membership.

A senior police official of the Chengalpattu district said the arrest was followed by contractor Naveen’s complaint, alleging that Veerasamy had demanded ₹1.3 lakh as bribe.

Acting on the complaint, a special team led by Inspector Praveen Rajesh carried out the arrest. The accused was produced before the Thiruporur Court and was sent to prison.
