As the National Conference prepares for its protest at Jantar Mantar, Panun Kashmir has also announced a demonstration at the same venue on July 20 to press for a separate homeland within the Kashmir region for displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

The organisation, which has campaigned for decades for a separate homeland in Kashmir, held a meeting on Sunday to finalise logistical arrangements for the protest in New Delhi.

The review meeting, attended by central office-bearers, state coordinators and volunteers, focused on transportation, accommodation, security coordination, media outreach and participant facilitation. The leadership said the mobilisation would be conducted in a disciplined and constitutionally compliant manner.

Addressing the gathering, Panun Kashmir chairman Tito Ganju said the issue of the “genocide and exile” of Kashmiri Hindus had been ignored by the political establishment for 36 years.

“The organisation is marching to Jantar Mantar to tell Parliament loud and clear that justice must come first,” he said.

Ganju said the nation could not continue to ignore the plight of Kashmiri Pandits while debating constitutional and political issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir. He asserted that no lasting political solution for the region could be achieved without addressing accountability for the 1990 exodus.

He reiterated the organisation’s demand for a separate homeland to ensure the secure, dignified and sustainable resettlement of displaced Kashmiri Pandits and their full integration within the country’s constitutional and democratic framework. He also appealed to the younger generation of the displaced community to participate in large numbers and exercise their democratic right to peaceful protest.

Panun Kashmir convenor Dr Agnishekhar said the proposed demonstration was a democratic effort to bring the unresolved issues of Kashmiri Pandits back into the national discourse. He appealed to all citizens committed to historical truth and human rights to join the protest in solidarity.

General Secretary Kuldeep Raina informed the executive body that volunteer committees had been constituted across various states to coordinate reception, transportation and participant assistance.
