Hyderabad

Minors who drive cars and ride two-wheelers now risk a cancellation of registration of vehicles per Section 199 A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1989.

The Transport Department said that they would tighten enforcement and appealed to parents and guardians not to allow those under 18 years of age to drive motor vehicles. Violations will attract stringent penal action, which includes cancellation of registration of the vehicle involved for 12 months. The juvenile would also become ineligible to obtain a driving licence until attaining the age of 25 years.

Officials said that 4,070 vehicle registrations were cancelled across Telangana during the year for permitting minors to drive.
