The Lok Sabha was adjourned following continued Opposition protests. The Lower House will next convene at 11 a.m., Wednesday (July 22, 2026).
Chairperson Saikia reprimanded the House for not maintaining decorum and allowing the House to function smoothly.
The Upper House was adjourned for the day following continued uproar despite Deputy Chair Harivansh Singh’s request to maintain decorum. The Rajya Sabha will reconvene at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

On repeated adjournments of the Parliament today, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal says, “The Opposition has no interest in making the House function. Yesterday too, the House did not function. The Opposition MPs went to that protest yesterday. On the other hand, they are continuously disrupting this House. This is wasting the hard-earned public money.”
Speaking outside Parliament premises, LoP Rahul Gandhi said Speaker Om Birla told the Opposition MPs delegation that he needs permission from the government to bring up a discussion on the “brutality” on students during the CJP protest march.
This police behaviour of “thrashing students” who are seeking their rights is “completely un-Indian”, he said talking to reporters on July 21, 2026.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore says, “LoP Rahul Gandhi and all the Opposition leaders met the Speaker and demanded that yesterday’s lathicharge should be discussed in the Parliament. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) questioned why the Prime Minister is silent over the police crackdown during the students’ protest march led by CJP in the national capital on Monday (July 20). Mr. Gandhi also met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla earlier today, seeking a discussion in the House over the “brutality” on students.
“Modi ji has not even apologised for what happened yesterday. The youth are protesting against the education and testing system. The whole country knows that the education and testing system is hollowed out by termites. Why is the Prime Minister silent? He should apologise to the students and stop this nonsense of thrashing students,” he told reporters.

Rajya Sabha has been adjourned to meet again at 2 p.m. shortly after reconvening at 12 p.m.
The Lok Sabha reconvened at 12 p.m. even as uproar and sloganeering continued in the House.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, after meeting Speaker Om Birla, said the Parliament must have a “detailed discussion on the brutality unleashed on students yesterday and on the government’s complete lack of accountability for the examination crisis.”
He said the Opposition will not the issue be buried and the students’ “voice will be heard on the streets, and in Parliament.”
As the House adjourned till noon amid uproar, Opposition MPs, led by Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, briefing the media after the NDA Parliamentary Party meet on Tuesday morning (July 21, 2026), said that PM Modi told MPs that the government took immediate action after the leak of NEET exam papers.
“Furthermore, prioritising the students’ futures, a re-examination was successfully conducted without delay in declaring the results... He also outlined the stringent steps being taken to avert future leaks... He stressed the need to punish the guilty and collaboratively establish a foolproof system,” Mr. Rijiju said.

Minutes after Lok Sabha began proceedings for the day, the Lower House was adjourned till noon by Speaker Om Birla over uproar and sloganeering by members.
“Members will get a chance to discussion the issues raised,” Mr. Birla said.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party’s weekly strategy meeting, now known as Mangal Milan, took place ahead of the session at the Parliament House today.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi is expected to address the leaders as NDA alliance partners also pass a congratulatory motion, honouring Mr. Modi for becoming the longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister of India.
The meetings are traditionally held on Tuesdays during Parliament sessions to demonstrate complete alliance unity.
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) moved an adjournment motion under Rule 267 in Rajya Sabha, alleging that several gates of Parliament were sealed and internet services were suspended, preventing MPs from leaving the House to meet citizens protesting nearby.
