Union Minister Kiren Rijiju blames the Congress of shifting goal posts, saying that initially the Congress party wanted a discussion but now Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge is adding new conditions for the debate.
In a social media post, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Opposition parties were trying to resolve problems on the street and not in Parliament. He also says that the government is fully sensitive to the concerns of the youth.

The ongoing protests in Delhi are a matter of serious concern. It is extremely unfortunate that some people are attempting to use the students and youth of our country as a political tool to fulfill their political interests. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, our government is fully committed to fulfilling the aspirations of students and youth and to their welfare.
It is our responsibility to listen to every concern of our students and resolve it. I am fully confident that India’s aware, mature, and sensible youth fully understand such deceptive attempts and will choose the path of progress, development, and nation-building.
We are committed to ensuring that no injustice is done to any individual, especially our students and youth. The Manufactured Sense of Anger by some opposition leaders is merely a failed attempt to confuse and mislead the public, especially our children and youth.
We are fully sensitive to the sentiments and concerns of the youth. Parliament is in session, and the government has also stated its willingness to have meaningful debates on every issue, but the opposition is making an inappropriate attempt to resolve issues not in Parliament but on the streets.
In a democracy, Parliament House is the place for discussion on issues, where the opposition is free to express its views. Therefore, if the opposition is serious, it should not disrupt the smooth functioning of the ongoing Monsoon Session and should draw the country’s attention to all issues within Parliament.

Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee had a heated exchange with some of his former party colleagues and Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) MPs in the Lok Sabha chamber.
The NCPI members involved in the exchange included Mitali Bag, Shatabdi Roy and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. It was not clear what led to the heated exchange.
Some members of the Opposition parties intervened and tried to calm down both sides. On being asked what had happened by some of the opposition MPs, Mr. Kalyan Banerjee left the House.
Ms. Bag, Ms. Dastidar and some other NCPI members subsequently went to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his chamber apparently to raise the issue. Sources said Mr. Birla asked the NCPI to submit a written complaint.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju speaks. He reiterates that the government has been saying from the beginning that they are ready to discuss NEET paper leak or any issue in Parliament. But why is the Opposition disturbing the House with sloganeering, he asks.
Leader of House J.P. Nadda also says that the government is ready to debate on any issue, including NEET paper leak. He says the Opposition is disrespecting the House by their protests.
Lok Sabha reconvenes amid Opposition protests inside the House. Krishna Prasad Tenneti on chair says that as per Speaker Om Birla’s directions, the proceedings will continue as per listed schedule and notices for discussions wont be allowed.
The House takes up papers to be laid on the Table.
Mr. Tenneti asks Opposition MPs to return to their seats and allow the House to function. However, the sloganeering continues in the House.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav speaks in the Lok Sabha on the NEET paper leak and the police crackdown on students issues.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that various Opposition parties led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, have given a notice under Rule 267 for a suspension of ordinary business and an immediate discussion on the use of excessive force by police against peaceful student protesters on July 20, 2026.
Congress MP K.C. Venugopal raises the issue of question paper leaks and the police crackdown on Delhi protests. He says that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must resign.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju replies to the remarks that the government is ready to discuss the NEET paper leak issue and the kind of discussion and the time for debate will be decided in consultation with the floor leaders of all the party.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav says that the issue is not about political parties but about the future of the youth. He says that all parties should be allowed to speak on the issue. He asks why can’t Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement on the students issue in Parliament if he can speak outside.
Meanwhile, Opposition MPs begin their protest despite Mr. Birla trying to break the logjam in the House. Mr. Birla says since Mr. Rijiju has confirmed that the government is ready for discussion, Opposition parties must come for the debate instead of protesting inside the House. However, Opposition continues their protest. The House is adjourned till 2 p.m.
Rajya Sabha reconvened only to be adjourned till 2 p.m. amid Opposition protests.

Proceedings commence in Lok Sabha. Opposition breaks into loud protests demanding a discussion over the issues they have given notices about. Speaker Om Birla tries to bring the House in order but to no effect. He pleads for the Opposition to allow Question Hour to continue.
He says the House is ready to discuss any issue for any time the Opposition wants but only after the Question Hour.
Opposition, however, continues its protest. Mr. Birla adjourns the House till 12 p.m.
