A new pedestrian subway will be constructed behind Mantri Mall in Bengaluru, at a cost of ₹5.5 crore, to provide a safe passage across railway tracks. Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna laid the foundation stone for the project on July 6.

The proposed subway, measuring 5 metres by 2.65 metres, is aimed at providing a safe and convenient passage for pedestrians across the railway tracks while preventing trespassing and enhancing the safety of train operations, according to South Western Railway (SWR). The project is expected to benefit residents of Seshadripuram, Okalipuram, Srirampura and Malleswaram.

Mr. Somanna said the project addresses a long-standing public need, and will significantly improve pedestrian safety in the area. He added that the Centre is bearing 100% of the cost for Road Over Bridge (ROB) and Road Under Bridge (RUB) projects to accelerate railway infrastructure development. He said work on the RUB at Ramohalli Gate near Kengeri is progressing well, and is expected to be completed soon.

Highlighting railway development in Karnataka, Mr. Somanna said that the redevelopment of Bengaluru Cantonment railway station is underway at an estimated cost of ₹485 crore, while work at Yesvantpur Junction railway station is progressing rapidly. He added that a coaching terminal is being planned at Yelahanka, and priority is being given to the Tumakuru–Davanagere and Rayadurga–Tumakuru railway line projects. Plans are also being prepared for a new direct railway line connecting Bengaluru and Kolar via Hosakote, Narasapura and Vemagal.
