DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi said on Friday that people know very well who stood with them, who helped them, and who abandoned them in their time of suffering and ran away from the scene, while reacting to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s remarks on the Karur stampede.

Addressing the media in Thoothukudi, she said the MLAs and Ministers of the TVK were repeatedly visiting places they should not be visiting, thereby creating problems for the people there.

“They are visiting schools and behaving in a manner that affects the mental well being of children and causes them distress,” she alleged.

“When even the Chief Minister engages in such actions, people begin to question the direction in which this government is heading, as sensitivity is an important thing,” Ms. Kanimozhi said.

Responding to the media’s question on Mr. Vijay’s remarks on the stampede, she said it was better to refrain from commenting on the issue, stating, “Everyone must understand the responsibilities entrusted to them. I do not wish to say more about the issue, as it is currently under investigation. At least, I feel that not commenting on the matter would be the responsible thing to do on my part, and I believe that it would be the right course of action.” Ms. Kanimozhi added: “However, people know very well who stood with them during that time, who helped them, and who left them to suffer and fled.”
