A woman learning to fly has been forced to land a plane by herself her instructor leapt to his death midflight without warning after uttering his last, chillingly casual words to her before his death. The student said her flight instructor told her, “You know what you have to do, carry on,” before taking off his headset and seatbelt, opening the door and jumping out of the Cessna 150 aircraft. Bertazzo was found dead following the incident on Saturday in Toledo, central Argentina, as per a statement from the country’s public prosecutor. His abrupt departure left his 22-year-old student, a young woman named Rosario, to land the aircraft by herself, CNN reports. Flying Parrot Córdoba flying school director Eduardo Álvarez told local reporters that Rosario landed the aircraft safely on her own, despite being in “complete shock,” he added. The plane was also undamaged.

The 22-year-old was then forced to Cessna C-150 alone and unaided at Coronel Olmedo Airport, where they took off, and alerted authorities to the emergency situation(Image: Supplied)

Whilst she was not physically injured, the student is understood to have been hospitalised for severe psychological trauma after her flight from hell.

Álvarez added that Bertazzo had also gone on a flight with another student earlier that day, with that flight going off without a hitch. Rosario, however, had already obtained her private pilot license and was completing additional flight hours at the Coronel Olmedo airfield when tragedy struck.

“He made this tragic decision on board an aircraft with another person by his side,” Álvarez said. “It’s impossible to think about it or understand it, but the human mind is so complex.” He added that Bertazzo was “a beautiful person with a great smile. We are surprised that this has happened.”

The director of the flight school went on to explain that opening the door of a plane in midair is extremely difficult, before comparing it to trying to open the door of a car travelling at 124 miles per hour.Bertazzo was highly experienced and had also worked as a flight instructor in neighbouring Chile, local news station TN reported. Prosecutors will now investigate the exact details of the incident that led to the flight instructor's death.

Investigators have since uncovered that Bertazzo had recently undergone psychiatric treatment prior to the incident The flight school was completely unaware of his past struggles with mental health.
