Hours after Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, along with a host of Congress MPs, staged a sit-in protest outside the Prime Minister's residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on Tuesday afternoon, a comprehensive security review was conducted soon after.

Consequently, the number of commandos deployed within the security parameters of the Prime Minister's residence was increased.

According to sources aware of the developments, based on the threat assessment, additional Special Protection Group (SPG) commandos were deployed in the inner periphery of the residence, while the outer security ring was further reinforced with the assistance of the Special Duty Group (SDG), which consists of CRPF commandos.

The threat assessment level was enhanced due to large crowd accumulation and heavy volume of vehicles gathering in front of the residence post the protest, sources said. Consequently, the SPG's close-protection team and the outer security ring were strengthened, sources further informed.

Additional commandos from the CRPF's SDG unit were placed on alert at the PM's residence, and their numbers were increased.

The SDG is tasked with securing the outer perimeter of the Prime Minister's official residence, office, and public event venues—a duty performed under SPG supervision. Personnel from central paramilitary forces and the Delhi Police took up positions outside the PM's residence.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other Congress MPs had on Tuesday afternoon reached outside the Prime Minister's residence and organised a sit-in protest.

After the protesting leaders were whisked away by police personnel later on Tuesday evening, central agencies and the SPG conducted a review of the security arrangements at the Prime Minister's residence, following which the security ring was enhanced.
