Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy warned people of penal action if people or groups directly act on suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Reddy said people should give information about suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to the police. The police will catch such persons and take action to deport them after collecting documents that shows that they have illegally entered India. Only the police has authority to check and detain such persons.
“If anyone else tries to do police work, if the people happen to be Indians, they are committing a crime under Sections 341 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) (of Indian Penal Code). If there is any physical assault or such incidents, concerned sections also will apply,” he said. An activist tried such a thing recently and was sent to prison, Mr. Reddy stated.
