As part of Operation Night Safety aimed at preventing any disturbance to law and order, the district police has carried out extensive surveillance in crime-prone areas from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday.

Special vigil was maintained at all major junctions, sensitive locations, and inter-State border checkposts to prevent the entry of anti-social elements and illegal transportation from neighbouring States. Extensive drunk-and-drive tests were conducted and cases were registered under the Motor Vehicles Act against those who violated the rules.

Several youths and suspicious persons found roaming unnecessarily on the roads during the midnight hours were questioned and let off after verification. They were counselled about the risks of roaming outside without any valid reason during late-night hours.

To prevent thefts and robberies in residential areas, police intensified beat patrolling in colonies and around commercial establishments. Patrol vehicles monitored locked houses and residences left unattended during the night. Special surveillance was put in place to ensure security at banks, ATM centres, and major commercial establishments where financial transactions take place.

Meanwhile, as part of preventing road accidents during night hours, Face-Wash-and-Go program was conducted at all the checkposts in the district. Police observed that majority of road accidents during night hours occur because drivers undertaking long-distance journeys tend to become drowsy while driving. To keep them alert and prevent such accidents, ‘Face Wash & Go’ programme (Wash Your Face and Continue Your Journey) was conducted at several major toll gates across the district.

The programme was conducted at Jallipalli in Kuderu Mandal, Maruru Toll Gate in Raptadu Mandal, Kasepalli Toll Plaza in Peddavaduguru Mandal, and Dharmapuram Toll Gate in Peddapappuru Mandal. Cars, jeeps, lorries, and other heavy vehicles passing through these toll gates were stopped, and water was provided to drivers to wash their faces. Subsequently, tea and coffee were served to help them overcome drowsiness.
