Chittoor district police have intensified surveillance against human trafficking and organised prostitution, asserting that special parties have been formed to pursue a zero-tolerance policy towards offences that exploit women.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi said the special teams were conducting surveillance and raids across the district to identify and remove prostitution networks. “The enforcement will be against not only the organisers and middlemen but also against those involved in trafficking women under the guise of jobs, marriage proposals and other false promises,” the SP said.
Mr. Dudi said that the police have registered 13 cases related to immoral trafficking and prostitution during 2025-26. A total of 46 accused persons were arrested, while 18 women were rescued from such situations, besides making seizures of cash and mobile phones.
The SP said that the police would treat rescued women as victims in need of protection and rehabilitation rather than as offenders. “Counselling, assistance, medical support, and rehabilitation measures are being coordinated through the Women and Child Welfare Department and NGOs,” he said.
“The special teams are maintaining a close watch on hotels, lodges, guesthouses, rented accommodations, and other locations suspected of being used for illegal activities,” the SP said, adding that criminal cases would be filed under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, and other relevant laws.
The SP appealed to the public to remain vigilant and share information about suspicious activities with the nearest police station or Dial 112.
