Portland Timbers lock horns with FC Dallas on Wednesday as MLS action continues after a nearly two-month hiatus owing to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Marti Cifuentes' Portland are coming off a 5-1 victory at Seattle Sounders last week, in their first league game in six weeks. Kevin Kelsy scored either side of the break, while Kamal Miller and Cole Bassett also scored inside the opening hour.

Hassani Dotson pulled one back for Seattle three minutes from time, but Portland restored their four-goal lead in stoppage time through Alexander Aravena in the eighth minute of stoppage time to complete a resounding win.

With a first win in three games, Portland are 11th in the MLS Western Conference, with 17 points from 15 matches, winning five.

Meanwhile, Eric Quill's Dallas won 2-1 at 10-man Colorado Rapids in their last league outing nearly two months ago. Logan Farrington and Santiago Moreno first-half penalties overturned Paxton Aaronson's 12th-minute opener for Colorado, who saw Wayne Frederick see red two minutes from time.

With a second straight win, the Bulls are fifth in the Western Conference, with 25 points from 15 matches, winning seven.

On that note, here's a look at the head-to-head stats and key numbers, match prediction, and betting tips for the Portland-Dallas MLS clash at Providence Park in midweek:

The two sides have had contasting campaigns. While Portland have struggled for wins recently, Dallas have won four of their last five in MLS.

In terms of head-to-head, Dallas have a slender lead over the Timbers but have dominated recent meetings, with Portland winning once in eight games in the fixture and losing thrice.

While Portland returned to competitive action last week with a win, Dallas are set to play for the first time in two months. Conidering that the visitors could be a bit rusty, the Timber could eke out a slender win.

Prediction: Portland Timbers 3-2 FC Dallas

    Tip-1: Portland to win

    Tip-2: Both teams to score

    Tip-3: Over 2.5 goals
