The post-mortem examination of B.Biju, 38, who was found dead in a pool of blood inside his single-room house near the Palayam bus stand on Sunday, has revealed extreme brutality, with the latest medical report confirming over 40 wounds on the body.
According to police sources, the forensic analyses conducted at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital indicated that the victim succumbed to deep stabs and slashes, including deep cuts on his body. The Investigating team also reported the use of a sharp-edged kitchen knife for the assault after examining the nature of the wounds.
Biju, a dairy farmer, was found dead in a pool of blood around 3 a.m. on Sunday. It was his mother who alerted the police after his room was found locked from outside by unknown persons following the suspected murder. The elderly woman came to know about the incident when she went to wake him up for the routine dairy-related job.
Police sources from Kasaba station said their investigation was in full swing, based on the statements from some of the close relatives of the victim who indicated the suspicious involvement of a gang of drug addicts in the incident. Some of his close family members said Biju was frequently in touch with the local police to pass information on suspected drug pushers and addicts, which reportedly drew the wrath of a criminal network in the area.
Some of the local residents also told the police that Biju had opposed the misuse of an under-construction building near his house by suspected drug addicts around the Palayam area. He had also revealed the details of some of the suspects to local police for instant action, they said.
Senior police officers, including District Police Chief (Kozhikode city) A.P. Shoukathali, visited the crime scene and reviewed the progress of the ongoing investigation. Surveillance camera visuals from various spots were collected to make headway in the probe. The Department of Home Affairs also gathered the latest details of the incidents as it seen as as a threat against people who came in support of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, Operation Toofan, across the State.
