Private bus operators were on Thursday directed to desist from charging excess fare at a consultative meeting chaired by Tiruppur Collector Manish Narnaware. Representatives of Private Bus Owners’ Association had accepted to comply with the directive.
The meeting was convened in the wake of complaints from the public alleging that fares in excess of the extent specified by the State government were being collected by private buses.
The Collector said stringent action would be initiated if there are such complaints in future, and also instructed the bus operators to prevent passengers from travelling dangerously on footboard, refrain from using high-decibel horns, and to strictly adhere to all transport safety rules and guidelines.
Regional Transport Officers Bhaskaran and Palaniappan; and Motor Vehicle Inspectors also took part in the meeting.
