New Delhi: Union minister Jitendra Singh has accused Rahul Gandhi of changing his demands during talks aimed at ending a Congress protest in New Delhi on Tuesday. The demonstration was led by Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra following police action against students protesting over the NEET paper leak issue.

Congress leaders staged a sit-in near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Kalyan Marg residence and sought accountability over the treatment of protesters. Reports said they demanded the resignations of Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest came a day after police used force and tear gas during a student march towards Parliament.

The Congress has presented a different account of the stand-off. Party leaders have linked their protest to the police action against students and the continuing anger over examination paper leaks.

Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders visited injured protesters before joining the demonstration, according to reports. The party has continued to press for Pradhan’s resignation, leaving the Centre and Opposition locked in a political dispute even after the offer of a parliamentary discussion.
