Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivnath (Chinni) said that the redevelopment of Rayanapadu Railway Station under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has been completed at a cost of over ₹35 crore and the upgraded facility will be inaugurated on July 17, 2026.
In a statement, the MP said that the station had been modernised through the coordinated efforts of the Railway Ministry and would serve as a satellite terminal to ease congestion at Vijayawada Junction and provide improved passenger amenities. Around 12 trains, including some express services, are expected to operate through the station daily.
Developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the station now features upgraded platforms, passenger waiting halls, ticket counters, drinking water facilities, platform shelters, landscaped surroundings and improved accessibility. Mr. Chinni said the project reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing world-class facilities at railway stations across the country.
Major works include an air-conditioned prepaid waiting hall and modular toilet complex with facilities for persons with disabilities, renovation of Platform No. 1 over a length of 670 metres, tactile pathways for visually impaired passengers, a 340-metre platform shelter, and two lifts on the foot overbridge to improve accessibility for senior citizens and differently abled passengers.
The station building has also been renovated with modern lighting, ramps, tactile tiles and artwork showcasing the Kondapalli wooden toy tradition. The approach area has been upgraded with wider entry and exit gates, a compound wall, landscaped pedestrian pathways, an improved circulation area, parking facilities, lane markings and street lighting.
Mr. Chinni said the upgraded station would significantly enhance passenger convenience and safety while emerging as an important rail transit hub for the Vijayawada region.
