Chael Sonnen had a thing or two to speak about Conor McGregor's emotional response to his UFC 329 defeat. The American believes the former two-division champion is now confronting something bigger than a career-threatening injury.
McGregor's comeback against Max Holloway lasted only 69 seconds before a serious knee injury forced a TKO stoppage. Rather than attending the usual post-fight media obligations, the Irishman left the arena still wearing his fight gear before releasing a series of deeply personal statements on social media.
The former champion insisted he entered the contest healthy and admitted he was struggling to process the aftermath of the contest. He referenced being in a dark place and turning to faith.
Reacting to those messages, Sonnen urged McGregor to hold onto that mindset instead of rushing back into familiar habits. During a recent conversation with Mike Bohn, the UFC Hall of Famer said:
