Sheamus' time in WWE is over, but there is a twist. It appears that not everyone wanted him gone.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported on Sheamus' departure. But it turns out that even after he left, there were people within the company who felt he should remain.
Reports about his leaving WWE emerged earlier this week and were later confirmed by the Celtic Warrior himself. He rejected a restructured contract extension, ending his time in WWE. The contract would have reduced his earnings by a significant margin, something the company has been proposing to several stars. The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were on the same boat, and they rejected it as well, leaving as a result.
The report has now revealed that an unnamed high-level member of the WWE office "went to bat" for Sheamus and approached TKO. The person spoke about how valuable he was to the company and that his contributions went well beyond his in-ring contributions, after nearly two decades with WWE.
Meanwhile, regarding his future, it appears that someone close to the star has confirmed he would be open to competing in AEW should the right opportunity arise, even if only for a short time.
As reported exclusively by Sportskeeda, those backstage in WWE are extremely unhappy with Sheamus' departure from the company. It has caused some tension backstage as they feel that, given the time served with the company, the reduced contract made no sense. He was very well loved.
Further details of his next step have not emerged yet.
