Residents of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) housing unit at Kuppichipalayam in Periyanaickenpalayam submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector on Monday seeking regular government bus services and improvement of basic civic amenities in the locality.
In the petition, the residents said around 1,026 families have been residing in the housing unit for the last two years and have been paying taxes to the local body. However, they alleged, lack of adequate government bus services has made commuting difficult for schoolchildren, college students, working men and women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
They urged the district administration to facilitate regular government bus services to the area.
The residents also sought construction of a community hall and a children’s park, provision of underground drainage and stormwater drains, opening of a fair price shop, daily functioning of the Primary Health Centre, installation of adequate streetlights, and regular collection of solid waste. They alleged that burning of garbage in the locality caused respiratory problems. They requested the administration to ensure its scientific disposal through the town panchayat.
