Ty Gibbs did not hide his emotions after Sunday night's NASCAR Cup Series race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Even after a fourth-place finish, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver said he wanted to "rip the dash out" of his No. 54 Toyota and "punch myself" over the speeding penalty on pit road that cost him a shot at the race win.

Gibbs started the Window World 450 from eighth and grabbed the Stage 1 victory after holding off Shane van Gisbergen. The strong run put him in position to challenge race winner Joey Logano but he was caught speeding on pit road.

The penalty dropped him to the rear of the field for the Stage 2 restart and erased the advantage he had built through the opening 80 laps. Speaking to TNT Sports after the race, the 23-year-old shared an unusually blunt assessment of his performance.

Meanwhile, his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe finished second and third, giving Joe Gibbs Racing three cars in the top four during the first Cup Series points-paying race at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 30 years.

Ty Gibbs landed in the top-5 for the second time in a row after his fourth-place finish at EchoPark Speedway. He also thanked his crew and sponsors after the race, he said:

After the North Wilkesboro race, he sits fourth in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings behind Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick, and Ryan Blaney.

The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Gibbs is the defending NASCAR In-Season Challenge champion. He beat Ty Dillon after finishing 21st in the Brickyard 400 last year.
