The Channapatna town police have arrested a rowdy-sheeter for allegedly drugging, stripping, assaulting and filming a nude video of Channapatna Tahsildar B.N. Girish before attempting to extort ₹10 lakh from him.

The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of June 28 at the Tahsildar’s official residence in Kuvempu Nagar, Channapatna.

Based on Girish’s complaint filed on July 1, the police registered a case against Anush Shivappa, Shobharaj and Naveen. The police have arrested Anush and remanded him to judicial custody, while efforts are on to trace the other two accused.

According to the complaint, Girish became acquainted with Anush through Facebook while serving as Tahsildar in Mysuru. Anush, who introduced himself as the founder of a social organisation, allegedly requested Girish to help create a promotional video highlighting his social work.

On the night of June 28, Anush called Girish saying he was travelling from Mysuru to Bengaluru and wished to meet him for the video shoot. Around 2 a.m., Anush arrived at the official residence along with Shobharaj and Naveen, the complaint said.

The three allegedly consumed liquor inside the house and offered Girish a glass of orange juice. Shortly after drinking it, Girish reportedly felt dizzy and lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness around 5 a.m., he found himself naked and still under the influence of the suspected intoxicant. He alleged that Anush assaulted him and that the accused had removed his clothes.

The complaint states that the accused also robbed an 8-gram gold ring, a 14-gram gold chain and a silver waist chain. They allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh, claiming Anush had suffered losses in a chit fund business, and forced Girish to hand over the keys to his cupboard. When Girish said the keys were not available, the accused allegedly assaulted him again. Shobharaj and Naveen are accused of pinning him to the bed, attempting to suffocate him with a pillow and threatening to kill him. They also allegedly recorded a nude video of the Tahsildar.

The trio allegedly confined Girish inside the house until around 6 a.m., subjected him to physical assault and forced him to write a note stating that he alone would be responsible for his death. Before leaving, they allegedly threatened to release the nude video unless ₹10 lakh was paid by the following day. After the accused left, Girish sought treatment at the Channapatna Government Hospital and later approached the police with a complaint.

The police said Anush, originally from Chamarajanagar district, previously worked as a gym trainer and has a rowdy sheet opened against him at Vijayanagar Police Station in Mysuru. He is also claimed to be the founder and State president of an organisation called National Shivashakti Sena Pade and has been booked in several assault-related cases.

Investigators suspect Anush exploited his acquaintance with the Tahsildar to carry out the alleged extortion attempt. The investigation is under way, and the police are searching for the remaining two accused.
