Construction of a flyover at Saibaba Colony junction in Coimbatore city, which is nearing completion, is expected to be opened for use next week.

“The tentative plan is to open it up for public use next week,” said District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar. The project was approved in 2022, and the Department of Highways began works in 2024. The four-lane, 1.2 km flyover is being built at ₹71 crore.

The main carriageway works are nearing completion, and service road works will only start after traffic is permitted on the flyover. Shifting of utility lines for the service road works will also be taken up after that, said sources who are in know of the project details.

The plan was to complete the entire project within 24 months from the date of commencement of the works. “The District Collector is learnt to have inspected the construction last week and instructed the officials to open the flyover for use after completing all works on the main carriageway,” said one of the members of the District Road Safety Committee.
