AEW veteran Samoa Joe is set to return to TV soon. However, he isn't coming back to All Elite Wrestling, as many would think. He hasn't been seen in the Jacksonville-based promotion since May 2026. He has been leading the Opps for the past couple of years. He is out of action due to a major filming project. During his absence, Hook, Anthony Bowens and Katsuyori Shibata represent him in the company. A new update on him was made on social media recently.
The former AEW World Champion has been wrestling for many decades. He has a decorated career, where he wrestled excellent contests in TNA, ROH, WWE, AEW and many other independent promotions. Despite a great career, he was part of some of the gruesome moments in pro wrestling history.
The Dark Side of the Ring usually covers the other side of the squared circle. The other side usually includes untold stories or infamous events that weren't properly documented. Next week, a huge story will be covered on the show, in which Samoa Joe's intense rivalry with Necro Butcher is featured.
In 2005, Samoa and Necro had a brutal match in the IWA Mid-South promotion. Ahead of the contest, the two stars had several real-life issues with each other. Their contest blurred the lines between reality and kayfabe as the match had some stiff attacks, which many believe were addressing their real-life animosity.
Recently, Dark Side of the Ring took to X to announce that next Tuesday, an episode featuring the feud between Samoa Joe and Necro Butcher will air.
It will be interesting to see when the Samoan Submission Machine will return to action. As All In approaches, Tony Khan might need the former AEW World Champion's star power on the card at Wembley Stadium. It remains to be seen what his role will be at the blockbuster pay-per-view.
