A search operation is being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team with assistance from the district administration in the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) canal after a polytechnic lecturer was feared to have drowned in the canal two days ago.

DC Varsha Khangwal visited the Matanhail area on Monday to take stock of the situation and issued necessary directions to officials involved in the rescue operation.

While interacting with the family of the missing lecturer, the DC assured them that the administration was standing with them during this difficult time and that all possible efforts were being made to locate the youth.

“Directions have been issued to the concerned departments to reduce the water level in the canal to speed up the search operation. For this purpose, water from the JLN canal is being diverted into other canals and minor channels so that rescue teams can conduct the search more effectively,” Varsha said.

She added that a continuous search operation was being carried out in the canal with the help of divers and SDRF personnel. Nets have also been installed near bridges, considering the water flow, as part of efforts to trace the missing youth.

“We are closely monitoring the situation with sensitivity and making every possible effort to locate the missing youth at the earliest,” the DC said.

She also inspected JLN Bakra Head and other locations to assess water flow conditions and directed officials on the spot to take necessary measures.

SDM, Jhajjar, Ravi Meena has been continuously monitoring the situation since the incident and is coordinating with the teams involved in the search operation, while ensuring administrative support from headquarters and the concerned departments whenever required.
