Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has eased the certification requirements for distributors of Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs), allowing those who obtain a newly introduced certification to sell both mutual fund and SIF products without needing a separate mutual fund distributor qualification.

The regulator said persons engaged in the distribution of SIFs would be required to hold the NISM Series V-D - Mutual Fund-Specialized Investment Fund distributors certification.

Those holding the certification would be eligible to distribute both mutual funds and SIFs, it said in a circular on Tuesday.

However, entities engaged solely in the distribution of mutual fund products would continue to be governed by the existing requirement of holding the NISM Series V-A certification.
