The Dakshina Kannada police raided a house in Belthangady taluk on Wednesday night and arrested seven persons on charges of printing fake Indian currency notes with a face value of ₹500.
Talking to reporters here, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Arun said that, acting on a tip-off, a team from the Uppinangady police station led by Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Sutesh K.P. raided the house in Adenja, Kaniyuru village, in Belthangady taluk. They seized 21 A4 sheets bearing prints resembling ₹500 currency notes. The police also seized a ₹500 currency note, a computer, a photocopier, seals, security thread and paper cutters used to cut the sheets.
The SP said the accused had printed the fake currency notes but had not yet circulated them. The printing was carried out at a house that the accused had rented a month ago.
The police identified the accused as Ibrahim, 60, of Kasaba village in Puttur taluk; Sharief, 51, of Chengala village in Kasaragod district, Kerala; Sandeep Pundaleeka Sholambi, 30, of Haliyal taluk in Uttara Kannada district; Mohammed Nabas, 37, of Amur village in Kasaragod district; Salman Faris, 25, of Olamogaru village in Puttur taluk; Sirajuddin, 34, of Uruvalu village in Belthangady taluk; and Irshad, 31, of Puthila village in Belthangady taluk.
Dakshina Kannada District Special Police Unit Inspector Nandakumar and personnel, namely Assistant Sub-Inspector Deepak, Head Constables Satish and Rauf, and a team from the Kodagu district police led by Superintendent of Police Bindu Mani R.N. and comprising Head Constables Yogish B. and Niranjan M.N., were involved in tracing the accused, Mr. Arun said in a press note.
