New Delhi: The members of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), along with several film personalities and supporters, have started marching towards the parliament on Monday (July 20). Some of the celebrities have also joined the protest and reached Jantar Mantar a day ahead to join the ‘Sansad Chalo‘ march.
Meanwhile, activist Sonam Wangchuk remains admitted to Sardarjung Hospital after being forcibly removed from the protest site at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday (July 18).
Veteran actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj reached Jantar Mantar on Sunday (July 19), a day ahead of the proposed ‘Sansad Chalo’ march. The day also coincides with the beginning of the Monsoon session of the Parliament.
A video of Shabana Azmi interacting with the protestors has gone viral on social media. In the clip, she is seen meeting the demonstrators and extending her support to those participating in the agitation. She also sat beside a protester who had been on an indefinite hunger strike. In a gesture of solidarity, Azmi held her hand, kissed them gently and caressed her face.
Speaking with Lallantop, Aayush Sharma said that political awareness is important for the younger generation and that support should never be blind. The actor, whose father, Anil Sharma, is a senior BJP leader from Himachal Pradesh, said that leaders are meant to work for people regardless of party lines. He further added that rather than viewing issues through a political lens, they should be viewed as concerns that affect citizens.
Actress Sonakshi Sinha extended her support through several videos on Instagram. She reshared a post by the Cockroach Janta Party that urged people to assemble at 9 am on July 20 to support Sonam Wangchuk.
In a video, she said, “What happened with Sonam Sir today wasn’t right. I am glad he is accompanied by his wife. He is still strong and alert. I have been seeing him and the thousands of protesters who have followed a non-violent path to make their point. We are all aware that the youth is the future of our country. Hats off to you for how, despite all the setbacks, you have remained non-violent and calm.”
“Please keep your voice fearless, but also maintain the decorum that has been followed throughout this protest. Peace. Unity. Respect. Every citizen has the right to question, and when people do so without violence, they deserve to be heard. I stand with the youth, the Constitution, the students and the nation. Let’s all hope for the best. I am with you,” she added.
Several celebrities have come in support of Sonam Wangchuk, including Naseeruddin Shah, Abhay Deol, Omi Vaidya, Atul Kulkarni, Imran Khan, Zeenat Aman, Soni Razdan and Ratna Pathak Shah, among others.
On Monday, the security forces used tear gas shells to disperse thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party who began their march towards the Parliament. The cops also used sticks and batons to disperse the crowd.
