The expectations have risen for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye after his MVP-calibre season during their run through to the Super Bowl last year.

Maye is among the Patriots stars to join the team's training camp this week. However, last year's MVP runner-up didn't have the best start to his preparations for the 2026 season, according to Patriots insider Evan Lazar.

Lazar reported that Maye had a "shaky" session on day 2 of training camp.

Maye reportedly completed just six of 12 attempts and was picked off for the first time by Patriots safety Craig Woodson after his pass was too high for A.J. Brown, who was traded to the Patriots in the offseason.

While Maye had an underwhelming showing with several of his passes not finding their target, Patriots defensive stars Woodson and Christian Gonzalez were solid for the team.

The Patriots quarterback faced criticism for his underwhelming performance against the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl LX defeat in February. However, Drake Maye intends to start the season strong when they travel to Seattle for a rematch against the reigning Super Bowl champions in Week 1.

Apart from A.J. Brown, the Patriots also signed Romeo Doubs to the offensive roster to add more weapons for their signal caller.
