Hollywood superstar Will Ferrell has hilariously claimed that he would like to play FIFA president Gianni Infantino in a movie. He called the Swiss, who has been in the top position for 10 years, corrupt.
Speaking to Yahoo Sports at the promotion of The Hawk, Ferrell was asked which World Cup star he would play in a movie. The reporter quickly suggested the name Erling Haaland, but he rebuffed the suggestion.
He did not want to play a player, and instead chose the president and said:
Infantino could very likely still be the FIFA president should a movie be made on the World Cup this summer. He has one more year left in his term but is running unopposed, with no challenger having emerged for the next election.
The Swiss has been at the centre of several controversies that have overshadowed his presidency. The 56-year-old has already received the public backing of three of the six confederations - Africa, Asia and South America, which is over half (110 of 211) the member associations.
He has a case filed against him by former UEFA president Michael Platini, who has accused him and several others of conspiring to exclude him from the 2015 FIFA Presidential race.
The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup saw the number of teams expand to 48 for the first time, up from 32. Gianni Infantino has now revealed that they are planning to go further in their scale, and see if a 64-team tournament is possible and said this week:
FIFA are hosting the 2030 World Cup in six countries to mark the tournament's 100th anniversary. The opening matches take place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, while the rest of the tournament will be in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
