Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Moeen Ali bluntly stated that India all-rounder Shivam Dube must not bowl in T20Is. His statement came following England's 4-0 victory in the five-match T20I series against the Men in Blue.
Moeen Ali said that he never felt someone like Dube should be bowling in the shorter format, unless the conditions were favorable for him to take the ball. He was also against India's decision to hand the ball to Dube in the 19th over of the fifth T20I.
Although Dube picked up a couple of wickets, he conceded 22 runs. Overall, he bowled just three overs in the series but gave away 47 runs at an average of 23.50 and an economy rate of 15.66.
Moeen Ali also empathised with India captain Shreyas Iyer. While the visitors lost the series, he reckoned that Iyer scoring runs as skipper was important, highlighting how Suryakumar Yadav was removed and dropped due to poor form. In Iyer's defence, Moeen added that the Men in Blue did not have a potent bowling attack.
Shreyas Iyer scored 218 runs from five games at an average of 54.50 and a strike rate of 157.97 with two half-centuries, including a top score of an unbeaten 80.
The Indian bowlers appeared absolutely clueless in the fifth T20I as England put up a huge score of 257/3. Towards the backend, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna bowled a couple of good overs, going for eight runs each in the 17th and 18th respectively.
Given the way Jos Buttler and Harry Brook were tearing the bowling apart, Moeen Ali reflected that the visitors should have brought their death bowlers on much earlier.
The former all-rounder opined that the visitors had a young and inexperienced team when it came to playing in England. Being used to playing at home and in the IPL, he felt that the conditions made a huge difference.
The action now shifts to the ODIs as the two teams will play three matches beginning Tuesday, July 14. India will be eager to bounce back as the formats change.
