Udupi Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer T.K. Swaroopa said on Friday that voters will have to submit any of the 11 documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) only if their names are missing from the draft voters’ list to be published on August 5. Those whose names appear in the draft list need not submit any documents.
Speaking at the monthly interaction programme organised by the Udupi Union of Working Journalists at Udupi Press Club on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Ms. Swaroopa said strict instructions had been issued several times to BLOs to visit houses and issue and collect forms. Notices have already been issued to BLOs who have been working slowly. Appropriate action will be taken against BLOs who are not performing their duties properly, she said.
If the enumeration form is submitted but the name is left out of the draft list, voters can apply with another copy in their possession. “The ECI will issue notices to those whose names have differences. They should submit a document regarding the change in their current name. If the names of voters are in the draft list, they will not be deleted from the final list for any reason. The final voters’ list will be published on October 7,” she said.
Officials have been appointed at the taluk level to clear doubts regarding the enumaration form. Volunteers have been appointed at the booth level. They will also work on Sundays. If there are complaints about BLOs, people can also call the sector officers or the tahsildar, she said.
On this occasion, she released the June issue of the union’s ‘Sanmati’ publication. The union’s Udupi district president Subrahmanya G. Kurya presided over the programme.
