Six persons from Dharwad were killed and three others injured in an accident involving an MUV (Multi-Utility Vehicle) and a truck near Balagar Cross of Aratibail Ghat in Yallapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district during the wee hours of Thursday (July 9, 2026).
All the deceased are from Dharwad and were on a trip to Dharmasthala and other places. All the victims and the injured persons were working as delivery boys for online quick delivery platforms, and had planned the trip to pilgrim centres with their savings, sources said.
The deceased have been identified as the driver Sanjeev Angadi (33), Basaappa Kanakanavar (38), Abhishek Eshwar (28), Akshay Muralavar ( 26), Abhishek Madabavi (27), Manjunath Chulaki (33), all from Dharwad.
The injured persons are Shivaraj Madiwal (22), Channabasayya Sampagavimath (28) and Sachin (26), all from Dharwad. Among the injured being treated at KMCRI Hospital in Hubballi, the condition of one of them is critical, according to Medical Superintendent of KMCRI Dr. Ishwar Hasabi.
Yallapur police and Highway patrol personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital. Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada district K. Lakshimpriya, Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N. , ZP CEO Dileesh Sasi and others visited the spot.
Due to the impact of the collision, the MUV has been crushed and the rescue personnel had a difficult time removing the bodies. While four of them died on the spot, one breathed his last midway to hospital, and another succumbed to injuries at KMCRI hospital.
