Sloane Stephens recently shared a befitting response to a critical comment, which highlighted the American player's absence from Wimbledon. Stephens competed in her last outing at the 2026 French Open.
The 33-year-old's run came to an end in the first round after her 6-3, 6-2 defeat to Sara Bejlek. Stephen's 2025 and 2026 seasons were derailed by a right foot stress fracture. After missing most of her 2025 season, she started her 2026 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland. She advanced through the qualifiers to face Karolina Pliskova in the first round of the Australian Open.
Amid her recovery and absence from court, Stephens was seen enjoying the Vincy Mas festival in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, wearing vibrant outfits alongside her friends. One of the social media users noted her absence from the court and joked that she might be done with tennis.
Instead of responding to the tennis remark, Stephens pointed out the critic's spelling mistake, writing:
Stephens is recovering from a right foot stress fracture, an injury she has dealt with before on her left foot. After navigating a surgical process on the left foot, she opted for a long recovery and rehabilitation. Stephens opined that another surgery would have been "career-ending."
Sloane Stephens wrote an inspiring message for Victoria Mboko after she pulled out of competing in her home arena at the upcoming 2026 National Bank Open. Mboko suffered a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to her left knee after she slipped during her match against Karolina Pliskova at the Queen's Club Championships in June.
The injury forced her to withdraw from multiple grass-court tournaments, including Wimbledon and the upcoming WTA 1000 event in Montreal. She took to Instagram to announce her withdrawal, writing:
Stephens showed confidence in Mboko's ability to make a strong return and wrote:
Sloane Stephens defeated Madison Keys to clinch her first and only Major title at the 2017 US Open.
