Dindigul Collector Durgamoorthi presided over a solar awareness camp for domestic electricity consumers in Dindigul, on Friday. The programme was organised by Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDCL).

The Collector said ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ was being implemented in the State by TNPDCL. The camp was being conducted to create an awareness among the public regarding the use of solar power in households by installing rooftop solar panels.

Under the scheme, subsidies are provided to consumers based on capacity: ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW. A target of 4,113 connections has been set for the Dindigul Electricity Distribution Circle under the scheme, and 1,200 connections have been installed so far, she said.

Instructions have been issued to authorities to conduct similar awareness camps across the district. Beneficiaries who have availed themselves of the scheme have been sharing the experiences and explaining the benefits at the camps. New applicants are coming forward to apply for solar connections, she said.

Those interested can apply for the scheme on the websites pmsuryaghar.gov.in and www.solarrooftop.gov.in, or through the ‘PM-suryaghar’ mobile application. An electricity bill is required to apply for the scheme, she said.
