Spain broke the record for the longest unbeaten streak in international football after a tense 1-0 win over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final in New Jersey on Sunday.

Luis de la Fuente’s side needed a 106th-minute goal from substitute Ferran Torres to break Argentina’s strong resistance in the summit clash.

The victory was La Roja’s 38th consecutive win on the international stage helping them overtake Italy which held the record with 37.

Spain, the reigning Euro Champion, won its second World Cup title, keeping up its 100 per cent record in the final.
