True leadership was founded on service, responsibility and integrity, said Commissioner of Collegiate Education P. Ponniah here on Thursday.

Speaking at a function organised at Lady Doak College, he emphasised the transformative role of higher education in nurturing knowledge and creativity. Students should be taught ethical values and social responsibility on the campuses of higher education, he said.

The role of academics went beyond curricula and syllabus. The students should be familiar with their duties and responsibilities in society when they left the campuses as graduates, he said and appealed to the faculty members to disseminate good qualities among youngsters.

In her address, Principal and college secretary R. Beulah Jayashree traced the institution’s 78-year legacy of excellence and presented the founder’s day video, ‘A Chronicle Etched in Time’, highlighting the vision and the values of the college founder, Katie Wilcox.

The college celebrated Triune’26, commemorating the college’s inauguration anniversary, Founder’s Day and inauguration of student cabinet. Student Affairs Dean S. Arockia Shyamala Paniyarasi welcomed. Joint Director of Collegiate Education (Madurai Region) V. Kalaiselvi, Vice-Principal R. Nimma Elizabeth, Bursar P. Vanitha Malarvizhi, student cabinet president C. Theraya and others participated.

A book, titled ‘Communities as Classrooms: A Guide to Service-Learning in Higher Education’, was released on the occasion.
