Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris confirmed that the club has no interest in selling captain Granit Xhaka, following interest from fellow Premier League side Chelsea.
Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen last season, Xhaka has been a vital presence in the midfield for Sunderland, as it qualified for the Europa League by finishing seventh.
With former Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso taking over the reins, Chelsea had expressed interest in signing Xhaka.
According to reports, Sunderland had already rejected the approach. Now, Le Bris has shot down this prospective transfer, emphasising Xhaka’s attachment to the club.
“No, this topic is closed. He has been really clear about his future. He loves Sunderland, he wants to stay in Sunderland. He wants to make the future of Sunderland. He is a good captain. Great leader,” said Le Bris, speaking after a pre-season friendly against Liverpool.
Xhaka was recently in action for Switzerland in FIFA World Cup 2026, leading the side to a credible quarterfinal finish.
