Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) paid tributes to social reformer Rettamalai Srinivasan on his birth anniversary.

    Mr. Radhakrishnan paid floral tributes to the social reformer at his office in New Delhi. He said Rettamalai Srinivasan was a great scholar and an eminent social reformer and his struggle against untouchability was incomparable.

    In a post on behalf of Governor Mr. Arlekar on X, the Lok Bhavan said, “On the birth anniversary of the eminent social reformer Rettamalai Srinivasan, I pay my respectful tributes to a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the upliftment of the oppressed and the advancement of social justice. A pioneering voice for equality and dignity, his relentless efforts in championing the rights of marginalized communities continue to inspire generations. His contributions towards nation building and inclusive progress remain a guiding light for our society.”

    In a post on X, Mr. Vijay said Rettamalai Srinivasan was a pioneer of social justice and a powerful voice for the rights of the oppressed. His efforts towards education, self-respect, equality and social justice continue to guide generations. “Let us honour and uphold his noble ideals and strive to build a Tamil Nadu founded on equality and humanism,” Mr. Vijay said.

    Earlier, Ministers Aadhav Arjuna, P. Venkataramanan, Vanni Arasu, N. Marie Wilson, R. Kumar and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol. Thirumavalavan paid tributes to the portrait of the late leader at Guindy in Chennai.

    In a separate development, the Chief Minister condoled the deaths of four persons in a road accident near Panruti in Cuddalore district. He also announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, ₹1 lakh each to seven severely injured persons undergoing treatment at hospitals, and ₹50,000 to a person who sustained minor injuries, to be paid from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.
