Team India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy penned an emotional message for Tamil cinema superstar C. Joseph Vijay, fondly known as Thalapathy Vijay, after watching the latter's farewell film Jana Nayagan. The actor-turned-politician retired from films after the recently released movie to focus on his political career.

Vijay is currently serving as the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's landmark election triumph earlier this year. Chakaravarthy mentioned that the 52-year-old was a big part of his childhood and he would miss his acting.

Chakaravarthy wrote in an Instagram story:

Chakaravarthy praised Jana Nayagan director H. Vinoth for making an entertaining film. The bowler added:

Notably, Chakaravarthy is a huge Thalapathy Vijay fan and also has a tattoo of the actor on his left arm.

Varun Chakaravarthy has had a tough year so far. He struggled to find his rhythm in the second half of the T20 World Cup 2026. The mystery spinner later faced multiple injury issues.

He suffered injuries to his finger and toe in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) and was forced to miss a few matches. The crafty bowler returned to action earlier this month in the five-match series against England.

However, he had an ordinary series, picking up just one wicket across three outings. Chakaravarthy was initially set to feature in India's ongoing three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, but was later ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi replaced the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star in the Indian squad. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue kicked off the tour with a comfortable seven-wicket win over the hosts on Thursday, July 23.
