New Delhi: Christopher Nolan’s epic, The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, has now crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India, becoming the director’s second film after Oppenheimer to hit the milestone. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey achieved another big landmark at the Indian box office by crossing Rs 100 crore within its first week in theatres.
The film has been hailed and appreciated for its storytelling, performances by the actors, and VFX. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film has crossed Rs 3,300 crore at the worldwide box office.
The Matt Damon starrer, The Odyssey, kept up its strong run even with the usual mid-week slowdown, officially becoming just the 21st Hollywood movie to join the famous Rs 100 crore club in India. According to Sacnilk, The Odyssey earned Rs 6.50 crore net on Day 6 (Wednesday) across 8,268 screenings in India. This marks a 22.2% drop from Tuesday’s net earnings of Rs 8.35 crore.
The film’s total gross collection now stands at Rs 100.38 crore, and the total India net collection is Rs 84.15 crore. The film has collected Rs 1,650 crore overseas.
The Odyssey opened in theaters with a net collection of Rs 17.40 crore on Friday, followed by significant growth over the weekend. By Sunday night, the film collected around Rs 61.30 crore net, thanks to high theater attendance in IMAX formats and glowing audience reviews.
That film is still one of the top 10 highest-earning Hollywood movies in India, making Rs 128.46 crore overall.
The original English version of the movie brings in the most money in India. Out of the estimated Rs 84.15 crore earned so far, the English version made about Rs 66.55 crore. This shows that people really want to watch Nolan’s movies in English.
At the same time, the dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu have together added just under Rs 20 crore to the total earnings across the country.
The Odyssey had a massive start, making about USD 124.5 million in North America and another USD 139.6 million in other countries. This opening is even better than Oppenheimer and is Nolan’s biggest debut since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
Promoted as Nolan’s first movie shot completely with IMAX cameras, this format helped sell a massive amount of tickets. IMAX screenings brought in USD 29.6 million in North America and USD 51.8 million worldwide, giving the company its best weekend ever.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the movie tells the story of Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca. It follows his long and dangerous journey back home to his wife Penelope after the Trojan Wars.
Based on Homer’s famous ancient Greek poem, the film features a large, star-studded cast that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, and Mia Goth.
