On July 21, 2026, BLACKPINK's Jennie released the music video teaser for her upcoming solo single Less Than a Lover along with its official release date. The single Less Than a Lover is scheduled to drop on July 24, 2026, at 1 pm KST, which is 12 am EDT.
The project marks another solo work from BLACKPINK's Jennie under her label OA Entertainment. She wrote the lyrics, directed the music video, and contributed to the music. The track is described as a summer song with lo-fi guitar sounds and vintage electric keyboard elements paired with more subdued vocals.
Jennie first performed the song live at several international music festivals, including Governors Ball in the United States, Open’er Festival in Poland, Roskilde Festival in Denmark, and Mad Cool Festival. These early performances allowed audiences to hear the unreleased track before its studio version arrived.
Earlier in the month, Jennie had shared initial teasers on her Instagram. On July 19, she posted an image announcing the single with credits noting her roles in direction, writing, and music. Before that, on July 18, she uploaded a Polaroid-style photo to her Instagram Story showing herself leaning affectionately on the shoulder of a man whose face was covered by a heart sticker. The image sparked widespread interest and speculation about its connection to her new project.
The man in the Polaroid has been identified as Kai, also known as Nah Kai, a Taiwanese model born in 2002. He is originally from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He is now based in South Korea, where he works with a modeling agency. Kai has appeared in fashion campaigns, including LOW CLASSIC’s 2026 Spring/Summer collection, as well as in various brand lookbooks and editorials.
Following the release of the music video teaser, reactions poured in across social media platforms. Several fans highlighted the clip's visual storytelling elements and expressed strong anticipation for the full video.
One fan commented:
Fans noted the cinematic quality of the ocean and nature shots paired with BLACKPINK's Jennie's close-up scenes. Discussions also centered on the identity of the male co-star and how the Polaroid image fits into the overall concept for the project.
More fans shared their thoughts on the same.
