Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese spoke up after Toronto Tempo coach Sandy Brondello made a controversial comment about her. The live broadcast caught Brondello referring to Reese as a "protected species," which led to her getting a one-game suspension. It happened on Friday, after the Dream had a 111-92 win over the Tempo.

The Tempo coach has since issued an apology for her words. On Sunday, Reese spoke about the incident and accepted the apology from Brondello.

However, Reese doubled down on her stance against discrimination.

On Sunday, Brondello revealed that she reached out to the Dream organization to apologize to Reese. She contacted the team's general manager, Dan Padover, to extend her regret to the WNBA star.

During the Dream-Tempo game, Nyara Sabally went down with an injury after contact with Angel Reese. However, the foul was called on Sabally, which led to Brondello's sensitive comments.

The Atlanta Dream faced Angel Reese's former team, the Chicago Sky, on Sunday. However, Reese was unable to finish the game and had to exit due to a left leg injury.

The WNBA star had a wide-open shot under the basket and left in the fourth quarter after her knee buckled when she came to a jump stop. Reese finished the game with eight points, five rebounds, a steal and a block.

Angel Reese has been playing her at her best in her first regular season with the Dream. After two seasons, the Sky traded her in the offseason, and after Brittney Griner left to join the Connecticut Sun, Atlanta needed to address its frontcourt issues.
