BTS leader RM (Kim Namjoon), spoke candidly about the group's lack of privacy while traveling during an appearance on the Fashion Neurosis YouTube interview on July 22, 2026. His remarks quickly sparked discussion among fans, many of whom connected his comments to the recent circulation of videos showing BTS members spending their free time in Munich.
During the interview, RM was asked about his interest in art and when he first discovered his appreciation for art while on tour. The leader started his response by reflecting on one of the challenges of traveling as a member of BTS, saying,
RM then further shared that his interest in visiting museums and appreciating art began because of fellow BTS member V (Kim Taehyung). While many fans delighted hearing the anecdote of Taehyung introducing him to art, RM's comments about not being able to go out alone drew significant attention online.
His remarks came amid ongoing debate within the BTS fandom over the members' privacy during the European leg of the group's tour. Previously, after BTS arrived in Munich for their concert, several videos of the members spending their personal time around the city spread widely across social media. The clips showed the members exploring local attractions and taking a break between concert schedules.
As the footage circulated across X and other platforms, many fans criticized those who recorded and uploaded the videos. Arguing that the members were not participating in an official schedule or public event, many expressed concern that filming and sharing such moments without the members' consent crossed personal boundaries.
Following RM's interview, those discussions resurfaced. Many fans pointed to his comments as further evidence of the challenges BTS faces when trying to enjoy time away from work during tours. Several fans argued that individuals who follow the members, record them without permission and post the footage online should not be considered fans. One fan's comment read,
Fans continued to condemn the behavior, arguing that genuine fans would respect the members' boundaries instead of following, filming or harassing them during their personal time.
They also rejected claims from those who uploaded the videos that the members were not bothered, saying RM's comments showed how difficult it was for BTS to enjoy time alone while on tour.
Others hoped RM's remarks would encourage people to respect the group's privacy during the tour.
RM was not the only BTS member to have spoken publicly about privacy during the group's tour. Previously, V also addressed the issue through a Weverse post. He shared that one of his favorite parts of touring was being able to explore each city during his free time without being disturbed, saying,
His message prompted many fans to echo the request online, urging others to respect BTS' personal time and boundaries while they were off schedule. On the other hand, during the same Fashion Neurosis interview, RM also shared how Taehyung played a key role in introducing him to the world of art.
He recalled that the experience took place in 2018, when he found himself with nothing planned during a tour. According to RM, V suggested visiting a museum, an idea he initially dismissed because he did not consider himself interested in art.
However, the visit changed his perspective. RM said that although he had learned about the artists in school, it was his first time viewing their original works firsthand in person, which left a lasting impression on him. He explained,
Meanwhile, BTS is set to continue the U.S. leg of its ARIRANG World Tour with two sold-out concerts in East Rutherford on Aug. 1 and 2.
