Former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their update on Rohit Sharma's future ahead of the third and final ODI against England at Lord's on Sunday, July 19. After his dismal showing with the bat in the second ODI, reports of Rohit's retirement after the England series took over social media.

However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia ruled any such development out on the following day, saying (via Cricbuzz):

Yet, Ramesh, ahead of the Lord's ODI, believes the BCCI statement did not answer the question about Rohit's 2027 World Cup future, saying on his Instagram handle:

Rohit is coming off twin failures in the opening two ODIs against England, combining for only 37 runs at a woeful strike rate of under 55.

Sadagoppan Ramesh wished for Rohit Sharma to score big in the ODI series decider against England at Lord's, irrespective of his future in Indian colors. The former opener believes a brilliant farewell knock would be fitting for Rohit's stellar career if the Lord's outing turns out to be his last for India.

He added:

The teams split the first two ODIs, with India winning the first in a run chase and England returning the favor in a similar fashion in the second game, setting up the decider at Lord's today (July 19).
