Hundreds of Congress workers, supporters and people from different walks of life paid floral tributes at the tomb of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at St. George Orthodox Church, Puthuppally, on Saturday as the State marked his third death anniversary.

AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal inaugurated the commemorative programme at the church premises during the day, while Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan paid floral tributes at the tomb later in the evening. Similar remembrance programmes were held at the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram and District Congress Committee offices across the State.

The commemorative event also featured a series of welfare initiatives. Five families were handed title deeds for four-cent land plots instituted in memory of former Kanpur University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nainan Abraham. Simon Kottoor, who built three houses for the Oommen Chandy Foundation, and foundation coordinator Cherian Varghese were honoured for their contributions.

Scholarships were distributed to 1,200 students, while 114 schools in the Puthuppally constituency received bicycles, cricket kits and footballs as part of an anti-drug awareness campaign.
