Pittsburgh Pirates ace Jared Jones held the Atlanta Braves scoreless through six innings in a dominant start on Wednesday night. Despite his dominance, the Braves mounted a late offensive charge for a 3-0 win.

Jones, who struck out eight batters on 77 pitches, didn't allow a hit in six innings. However, his perfect game bid ended after Pirates manager Don Kelly informed Jones he wasn't going back on the mound for the seventh inning.

MLB fans reacted to the Pirates skipper pulling Jones from the game after six hitless innings.

Jones missed last season after undergoing a ulnar collateral ligament internal brace surgery in May and the Pirates manager removed him from the game to preserve his elbow.

Jared Jones has thrown more than 80 pitches only once since his return from the surgery this year. Pirates manager Don Kelly revealed he planned for Jones to only pitch five innings to keep him healthy for the season.

The Pirates allowed three runs after Jones was taken off the mound, ending their three-game winning streak. Jones said he "completely understands" Kelly's decision to remove him after six innings.
