Thoothukudi Agriculture Department invites farmers to adopt drip irrigation systems to cope with changing weather patterns and to benefit from subsidies ranging between 75% to 100% on irrigation equipment.

According to a press statement, the drip irrigation system offers several benefits, including fertigation, where water soluble fertilizers are dissolved and supplied directly to the crops along with the irrigation. The system also helps control weeds by supplying water only to the required areas, preserves soil health, improves crop quality and supports farmers cultivating in difficult landscapes and terrains.

The statement further noted that through the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) scheme government has allotted funds to tackle drought conditions. Through this scheme, small and medium farmers can avail 100% subsidy on drip irrigation equipment, while large farmers can revive subsidies of up to 75%.
