Thoothukudi Q branch police seized 18 bundles of beedi leaves, weighing a total of around 540 kg, that were allegedly intended for smuggling to Sri Lanka from Inigo Nagar on Friday.

According to police, based on a tip-off, a police team conducted a search at scrubbed forest area near Inigo Nagar beach. During the operation, police personnel discovered 18 bundles of beedi leaves, each weighing around 30 kg concealed in the area.

Police seized the contraband along with the vehicle used for transportation and handed them over to the Customs department. Further investigations are on.
