Three persons, including two women, were arrested by the city police for allegedly luring a 31-year-old woman with the promise of an acting opportunity and attempting to force her into posing for intimate photographs.
According to the police, the complainant, a 31-year-old actor from Saligramam, received a phone call on Sunday (July 12, 2026) from Nandhi Ramanathan, who claimed to be a film producer.
He allegedly told her that she had been shortlisted to play the role of a goddess in an upcoming film and asked her to attend an audition at a hotel in Saligramam.
When she reached the hotel, she found Nandhi Ramanathan along with two women. The trio allegedly verified her personal details and documents and took photographs of her using their mobile phones. They later allegedly demanded that she pose nude for further photographs.
When the woman refused, the accused allegedly tried to persuade and pressure her into agreeing to the photoshoot. She managed to leave the hotel and immediately alerted the police control room.
Acting on the information, the Singappen Special Task Force of the Koyambedu Police District, along with personnel from the Virugambakkam Police Station, rushed to the hotel, conducted an inquiry and brought the three suspects to the police station.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the Virugambakkam Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and arrested them.
The arrested accused were identified as Nandhi Ramanathan, 65, of Perungudi, Karthika Devi, 45, of Virudhunagar, and Indirani, 40, of Sholinganallur.
